I forgot…

March 10, 2011

I forgot… To write my post throughout the day. Weird. I almost always blog throughout the day as I eat things or to plan what I will eat. Today I got to the iPad and there were no drafts. I was so confused. I had forgotten to blog. Blaming this on being very busy at work today. I had a few meetings, some small task and one big project that I was really getting into. The project is what I am calling Marketing Department: Buried Alive. I am de- and organizing (and throwing out stuff in) our space and I’m feeling very productive. I need to do this to my stuff.

Anyway the eats of the day…

For breakfast I was craving yogurt didn’t have any. I picked up a fruit n’ yogurt parfait at McDonalds and I added some cocoa roast almonds to bulk it up a bit.

It think I’ve only had this one other time but it is delicious a great fast food breakfas option.

Banana morning snack on top of the rain boots I had to wear to work today.

Lunch was one of the last diet-to-go meals, Chicken Philly Sub.

-whole wheat roll
-tiny piece of grilled chicken
-onions and a tiny spec of pepper
-slice American cheese
-honey mustard mayo
-peach cobbler

This was a disappointment. The chicken was minuscule, there were barely any peppers, mayo…really?! and A slice of yellow cheese. Bleeh.

I put some mayo because I thought it might be too dry without on the other half of the bread I put hot sauce.

The alleged peach cobbler was just yogurt with canned peaches so I gave it away.

I ate these baked tortilla chips instead.

Unsatisfying meal. :(

Afternoon snack was half a pint of strawbs.

Vita top dreaming of the beach.

Fitness: I had volleyball today at 6:30 so not too much time to workout. My training had me due to run 3 miles. It was miserable out so I was forced to the treadmill. I managed 3 miles in 26:34. Not too bad but felt pretty painful to me. The treadmill is so boring and for some reason I am much slower on it then I am outside. I chalk this up to being able to set your own run/jog pace outside which actually has me keeping a faster overall pace vs the steady staring at the clock treadmill. Anyway after the run I did W4D1 of the 100 pushup challenge. Recap of this day for ya: 60 secs in between 21-25-21-21-32+. I totaled 111 today doing 21-25-21-21-23. Slowly sloooowly sloooowly getting to the 100 in a row mark. After that I went to volleyball playoff game. We won in 2 games (best 2 out of 3).

I was starving when I got home for dinner! I had to think fast. I went into the freezer and pulled out….

-5 chicken meatballs I bought at Costco
-a TJ’s pasta eggplants dish that I had made, split into 2 portions and frozen one
-carb style wheat toast

I also added olive bar olives, crushed red pepper, “no salt”, and rf Parmesan.

This was a very filling I probably ate a few too many meatballs but they were stuck together so I thought why not.

Now I’m getting to bed early. I most likely have another terrible treadmill workout in the morning. Unless it stops raining PLEASE!

Birthday! …and lent

March 10, 2011

march 9 marks my 28th birthday. I am not a huge celebrator of birthdays (like people who have a bday month) but I like it to be acknowledged.. and I don’t mind gifts. haha

Today was also the first day of Lent. While I am not always the best Catholic, i do try to honor lent. Today I started 40 days of giving up peanut butter and peanut butter flavored things. I have been eating a ton of it lately so this is going to be a tough one.

For breakfast i really wanted those pb puffins but I promised to give them up, so i avoided.

-1/2 c grapenuts
-tbsp chopped pecans
-1/2 banana
-skim milk

I had the other half of the banana before going to lunch so I wouldnt be ravenous. Bad pic but trying to make it a little more interesting the just half of an overripe banana.

At work on your birthday, Lunch Club will take you out to wherever you want to go. Since I am having 2 meals out today (and this makes me slightly anxious) I wanted to go to a place where i can find out the calorie count and get something delicious, filling, and healthy. I chose Red Lobster. I don’t go there often but I love seafood and their website has an amazingly detailed nutritional information section. Dream! I planned out my meal before going and it was great.

-the highlight of trip: cheddar bay biscuit! soo melty and cheesy and fabulous.

-garden salad sans the croutons with balsamic vinagrette on the side (used the fork dip technique)

-blackened mahi-mahi with a double side of broccoli

They later brought me some ice cream with whipped cream and hot fudge.. i had a few bites of this as well. I couldn’t turn down free ice cream.

In the afternoon, I had the other half of my pint of strawberries.

Birthday vita top! In the flowers my department got me.

Fitness: i wasn’t going to not workout on my birthday!

Flashback to last year when I couldn’t work out because my eye was hit by a soccer ball and i was forced to do no physical activity for 2 weeks! I felt so guilty going out to eat. Tear.

Anyway, I taught my kickboxing class as usual.

For dinner I really wanted frozen yogurt. I love it and my life has been missing it since Saxby’s closed in Manayunk (psst, i hear a new place is opening in April!!). A quick googling earlier in the week led me to here: Sweetgreen. Not exactly close to my house, but not too far either. They seemed to have some healthy and delicious sounding salad options and more importantly tart forzen yogurt!.

I made my own salad with:

-mesclun mix
-spicy quinoa
-cucumbers
-peppers
-whole wheat croutons
-baked falafel
-curry pineapple yogurt dressing (fat free)

This was really good! The dressing really only tasted like curry, which was a good thing. The quinoa had a bit of a kick… Also good. I got the falafel which was tasty too. I would have preferred shrimp or chicken but they were out of shrimp and since it’s Ash Wednesday I stayed away from the meat.

It came with a side of wheat bread.

And as I said I really came for the tart yogurt. I splurged for the large with coconut, blueberries, and blackberries. This place was good, no pinkberry but, decent yogurt. They didn’t have that many topping choices. I think their schtick is locally grown stuff so the fruit selection was lacking.

I also had a stick of Kinder Bueno compliments of my friend Pam who just came back from Argentina and knows of my obsession with this hard to find in the US candy bar.

This was the perfect birthday dinner for me. I like to have a special treat on my birthday but if I go wild with fried food and a huge meal and tons of cake I will just feel guilty and gross. This was a good balance.

Thanks everyone for the birthday texts, calls, and facebook messages! Hello 28.

Pretzel Pocket

March 8, 2011

Today I was not liking the diet-to-go breakfast. A bran muffin and greek yogurt for 390 calories. First that is too much for breakfast. I stop at about 350 unless it’s something special. The muffin was tiny and 250 calories. I ditched the muffin and filled the yogurt with about a cup of Puffins pb cereal and a few strawberries.

This was a good combo but I wish it ha been plain yogurt. I do not like honey (not sure why just don’t enjoy that taste) and this was honey on the bottom. Anyway I slimmed this down to about a 300 calorie meal that was a lot bigger then the original.

For a snack at 11am I had a banana.

Lunch was back to diet-to-go (i have 3 more meals of this) Barbecue Chicken & Sauce with Anise Roasted Potatoes, Baked Beans, Green Beans & Almonds

i chose this one today because I know my dinner will be lacking veggies and this one had the most. It was only 380 calories. Good size for this tasty lunch. The chicken was good…

But I liked all the sides that came with this. Baked beans.

Green beans and almonds.

Potatoes. Surprisingly not a huge fan of these because they were made with anise. I don’t care for black licorice flavor. It was just a hint bit I could taste it. I doused it in BBQ sauce to salvage.

Afternoon snack was half a flat of strawberries. I got these 2 for $5 at acme.

And some mixed nuts.

Fiber one high fiber chewy bar before the gym.

Fitness: same old Tuesday routine. I missed pilates last week so glad to be back. At work I again struggled though W4D1 of 100 pushups. I’m stuck on this one doing a total of 109 pushups on about 10 mins.

I’ve decided that Tuesday dinners need to be fast. I don’t get home until after 8pm, I’m starving, and I only have an hour before I like to be blogging in my bed. Soooo that brings me to dinner. Ever since i heard of their existence (not sure how), I have been dying to try pretzel bread lean pockets. I found them at Costco and hopefully I like them because it’s a large box. Drum roll…

Grilled Chicken Jalapeño Cheddar Pretzel Bread Lean Pocket with sides of rf kettle chips and butter snaps dipped in my last tbsp of hummus.

The lean pocket was great. It smelled like a fresh pretzel baking… Amazing and I was surprised that the jalapeño cheddar actually had a little kick (I still added hot sauce.

I am glad I bought the big box of these, I will enjoy them.

Dessert was a godiva chocolate.

Now I am watching Nova embarrass themselves in the Big East Tournament. Which leads me to question who will I be supporting this march madness? Nova is going to go out mortifyingly early.. I think Notre Dame maybe my team after at. Gott keep it in the Big East. Nova, why?!

Vita top sandwich

February 22, 2011

Despite going to bed hungry last night, I had a normal amount of hunger for breakfast this morning. Funny how I can sleep it off.

I had a banana that was on the way to being over ripe so I got creative and invented this.

Vita Top Sandwich

-1 vita top heated and split in half
-1 tbsp RF pb
-about half banana thinly sliced (I ate the other half)

This was delicious. Very messy but oh my gaaa. Melty chocolate, pb and sweet banana. Soo good. Will probably be experimenting with these again. I am thinking a vita top cornbread sandwich is in my future.

Morning snack was a tiny apple I got from panera (way to small to eat on it’s own) and some mixed nuts and soy nuts.

Lunch was a pepperoni pizza lean pocket with some special k garlic and herb crackers. Hot sauce of course.

I am realizing that lean pockets are not very filling for me even when paired with a side of crackers. I am usually still hungry afterward. I should probably try pairing with a side of veggies instead.

Afternoon snack was a yogurt and kashi good friends topping.

I had a fiber one bar and some green tea made with water and one snl before heading to the gym.

Fitness: another day of W4 D1 of pushups and my usual Tuesday routine. I did a ton of hills today in spin. Hard/ great workout.

Dinner had to be quick because i get home late one Tuesdays and don’t like to waste time cooking and still hit my bed time. Getting home at 8 and still needing to eat, shower, and blog before bed at 9:30 (when I like to at least be in bed I would love to be asleep by then also) is a time crunch.

So after that rambling… Dinner was a TJ’s pasta Italiano and Gorton’s filet.

The meal was quick, made in less then 10 mins. I sprinkled with Parmesan and crushed red.

I ate half of the package of pasta, one filet, and some toast with spray butter. This was good, lots of different veggies- not enough eggplant though!- and easy to make (just slapped on stove but could have used in microwave) but too small of a portion. I was def hungry afterward.

It drove into the arms of dessert. Last piece of dark chocolate with sea salt and a few Swedish fish.

Turmeric education

December 15, 2010

Breakfast was a new peanut butter (you’re welcome for not eating oats, Sam)-Naturally nutty chocolate cherry pb. When I opened it up I was delightfully surprised that there were actual dried cherries in it.

-1 tbsp NN chocolate cherry pb
-ww bagel thing toasted

The peanut butter was good but I couldn’t really taste chocolate or cherry. The cherries in it were a nice touch though.

Morning snack banana.

Lunch was healthy choice again. This time cheese tortellini.

This was basically tomato soup with some spinach and a few tortellinis. It only added up to 180 calories so I had a Thomas’ Light English Muffin toasted and spritzed with Olivio butter spray which I then dipped into it.

Afternoon snack was a cut up apple.

Pre workout pb vita top. Speaking of which, so excited to order the new pumpkin spice vita flavor today!

Fitness: taught kick boxing tonight. Nothing special to report back on… My class never gets old for me. The hour goes so fast, I could go for longer.

Dinner escalated quickly. It started with TJ’s microwaveable wild rice… good stats, looked interesting, bad smell when I opened it.

On the stove I poured some frozen mixed vegetables and white beans in a pan coated with butter spray.

In the oven I broiled purdue baked chicken breast 5 minutes each side.

I mixed it all together and split into 3 servings (only 2 have chicken because that was all I had). It turned out a robust size about 430 calories a serving (590 with chicken). Mistake one, should have broken it into four servings if I wanted the chicken. 500 calories is enough for dinner.

Mistake two, I then tried to spice it up by taking about 1/3 of an Oikos non-fat Greek yogurt and mixing it with turmeric, cayenne pepper, and “no salt” salt (sounds weird… It’s low sodium salt).

The idea was good. Definitely needed some type of sauce because the rice still smelled weird, but I went a little heavy handed on the turmeric. Apparently a little goes a long way. I only have turmeric in my cabinet because Dan uses it in his famous (in my mind- i love it!) chili. I probably should have asked him before I poured a heaping amount into the yogurt. It was not good. I ended up eating the crispy baked chicken, which, as always, was awesome. I tried to get through the rice and veg but just couldn’t. It was a big dinner anyway so I guess I’m “eating intuitively” by stoping mid meal? I tried putting some curry powder to tone down the turmeric (did not work), but hence the yellow color of the remnants:

You win some, you lose some I guess. I will probably fear turmeric for a while now. I feel like I can’t make a real decision if I like the rice or not but I will try it tomorrow sans sauce. Thank God I didn’t put sauce over all of it!

Beware of turmeric.

Cleansed the palate with this sliver of Lauren’s birthday pumpkin cake. The icing was so good I knew I had to back away before I scraped the whole cake. Cake was good too but I have a weakness for icing. It’s an unhealthy obsession actually. So they make cakes anywhere there are 90% icing? Dream.

Rubbing elbows at the Four Seasons

December 10, 2010

Finally Friday of my extremely busy week.

Started with a ww bagel thin toasted, naturally nutty cinnamon honey pb, and sugar free raspberry reserves. “Ooooooh it’s a jar of preserves” -family guy.

I had to give a speech for a work vendor and I was preparing all morning and ate this banana while looking over my notes. No pic… I also drank some of my final eggnoggin’ tea :(.

Lunch was at the Four Season’s and awesomely plated. Started with salad with lots of strange tree-like greens and half a grainy roll.

Main course was juicy chicken I took the skin off of and ate 2/3 of with a side of fried eggplant and grilled tomato.

Dessert was awesome as well. This was like a chocolate lava cake. When you prodded the cake exterior is was oozing in the middle with chocolate good ness. I ate the middle out of said cake and left the cake. Everything else was consumed also… I love whipped cream, ice cream, and white chocolate raspberry sticks!

Fitness: I wanted to go to rowing but I was held up at work. I went home and did my “at home body weight and interval” workout. Took me about 50 mins to go through twice. I will post the workout soon!

Dinner on the roooooad.

-purdue baked chicken from the fridge
Toasted everything bagel thin
-one side honey mustard
-one side plain Greek yogurt

Side of buttery pretzels snaps.

Amazing Saxby’s latte. I love Saxby’s because they have a huge variety of sugar free syrup. I recreated my seasonal splurge star bucks drink here! Non-fat, sugar-free peppermint, white chocolate latte. It was everything I hoped it would be. Star bucks really needs to get on the sugar free bandwagon. They only have 3 flavors now!

I got (jelly) on my seat… (Jelly)

November 29, 2010

That’s a reworked speed quote for those who didn’t pick up on it. But that’s what I’ve been walking around with all day after an unfortunate run in with some jelly.

Woke up feeling very well rested and got my blogpress ap to work finally so I was happy about that. Short post about blogging from an iPad to come (hence the back up of posts the past 2 days).

Anyway got to work and toasted a ww (whole wheat) bagel thin and slapped a tbsp of naturally nutty cinnamon peanut butter on there and some sugar free raspberry jelly.

Somehow the jelly managed to drip down my arm and stomach onto my pants. Would not wash off in work bathroom. Sick. Anyway the breakfast was good but like i said just an unfortunate jelly attack.

For morning snack i had a ginger snappish tea and a Yoplait light strawberry banana yogurt. This is not my favorite flavor. They have so many better ones. Not buying again.

Then lunch came very quickly! Sign of a good day.

For lunch I busted out this whole wheat cheese raviolis (genuardis eating right brand). Good stats

They were good but def needed spices and salt. I added crushed red and some of coworker Brian’s garlic salt. Not bad for canned ravioli and whole wheat is so hard to come by. I would buy them again.

I knew I would be having a late dinner so i had a bigger snack today. Pepita mix and some pistachios.

Then my boss came around with a godiva box she got as a holiday gift. I chose this. Seemed like a fruit filled one.

I got lucky it was raspberry filled! Sidenote: I used to love chocolate covered cherries as a kid and would get a box for Christmas evey year. Now I would probably cringe if I got a whole box of chocolates. It would take me a year to eat but if someone found me a few prices of choco raspberries and cherries I wouldn’t be upset. Just saying.

Vita top in the holiday spirit. I’ve been trying to really get into it this year. Watched home alone with Jae last night (“if you want some someones gonna have to barf it all up. Cause it’s gone”), changed my computer desktop, have been listening to Xmas music in the car. What do you do to get in the swing of the holidays? I also have my eye out for half price nutcracker tickets!

Fitness: cashed in a Philly dealyo deal ($50 for 10 classes at a gym not too far away). Tonight I tried the boot camp class. it was pretty good. The gym, MLS Fitness in Bryn Mawr, was nice. The floor in the aerobics room was bouncy which was kind of cool. the class had some good parts
-they used kettlebells
-there were some really hard cardio parts
-they used paper plates to slide your feet to do lunges which was really hard.

Buuuut
-too much use of step class moves
-would have liked harder strength/ kettlebell moves
-should have done some additional cardio before. Not a problem though because it didn’t start until 6.

Also got to stop at trader joes for once. I wish it were closer or that parking by my house wasn’t such a b. I love it there. I could spend hours.

For dinner, I went to Pam’s. She made an awesome dinner that was also leftovers with a twist! Turkey Salad:

-spinach
-little bit of blue cheese
-avocado
-turkey
-tomato
-garbanzo beans
-trader joes raspberry vinaigrette

She also made an argentinian squash dish. She baked squash with corn, milk, flour, tomatoes… I think (probably butchering the recipe). Either way it was really good! And healthy!

Now I am caught up on all my posts! I mentioned in an earlier post I had award time blogging from the iPad. After getting the sd card connector, The apps were really touchy and wouldn’t work. annoying. So I got Behind. I am going to do a post at some point for blogging on an ipda because now I’ve worked it out and love it.

For now, goodnight!
