I tried to make my oats less boring this morning. Started with this rosey bowl that gave them a rosey glow. Just kidding that just happened.

-1/8 c steel cut
-1/4 c multi grain
-cinnamon, salt, sweet n low
-1/2 banana
-frozen pomegranate seeds on top

Frozen fruit on top makes it tons less boring.

1/2 banana for morning snack.

Fitness: since today is Lauren’s bday I had my spin class subbed for the night and got my gyming done at lunch. Fartlek training. Wikipedia calls it “Fartlek, which means “speed play” in Swedish, is a form of conditioning which puts stress on the whole aerobic energy system due to the continuous nature of the exercise. The difference between this type of training and continuous training is that the intensity or speed of the exercise varies, meaning that aerobic and anaerobic systems can be put under stress.” I did a variation of this but with 10 min warm up and 10 min cool down at 6.5 instead of 6.0.

I’ve only done this workout a handful of times and it’s usually pretty hard. Today I ran it quite easily. I was waiting for it to get hard but it never really did. Probably should have pushed myself a little more. In the end I went about 3.6 miles on 32 mins. Pretty slow but that’s what the workout was set up as.

Ate a soup at my desk for lunch post workout. Healthy choice lentil with goy a in it. It’s just ok. I like the plateful spinach initial but I really prefer Indian preparation of lentils as opposed to soup. Has good stats though and filling and conveniently heats in it’s own container.

Afternoon snacks were cut up pear and 100 calorie bag of popcorn.

I love popcorn and I always want it when people make it in the office which is inevitably at least once a week. However, if I eat it before a workout thats all I taste the entire time. Same deal with hummus, can’t eat it before a workout. Do you have anything like that, that just doesn’t sit well with you while working out?

I ran some errands after work (feeling productive!) and then met Lauren at home to drive to McCormick & Schmick’s in center city where we met Jae to celebrate Lauren’s 28th birthday. We drove past the infamous “Christmas Village”- actually made me was to check it out. Looks amusing.

I started with some wine, bread, and a single chilled shrimp. Delicious. Wish the bread was warm though :(

I was very excited that they had calorie counts on the back of the menu! The menu changes daily so not everything was listed but this gave me a good base. I chose the cedar roasted salmon with Northwest berry sauce. It was on the back (partly why I chose it) and it had 470 calories.

The sauce was really good but I wished there was more of it. Veggies were good too and lightly sauced which was refreshing.

I also had some of the mashed potatoes Jae and Lauren ordered and they tasted really whhhhhipped, buttery, and amazing. had to pry myself away from those.

For desert we shared the upside down apple pie with cinnamon ice cream. It was lacking in the ice cream serving department. Def needed more! The pie was good though. The crust was really mushy, in a good way, and blended into the apples.

He’s so “cool”. Haha

It was freezing out tonight. Especially annoying we tried to be good and parked not with the valet but in a parking garage down the street. We trudged over there shaking and complaining. At the end of the night they ended up both being $18 grrrrr. Anyway now I am cozy in my bed. Mmmm

Burning off weekend feasting

First off, I bought this at Starbucks yesterday and I love it:

Other than that, seems like a boring day today, at least until my loong gym sess. And all my pics are from the iphone because i was charging my camera battery and left it at home.

Breakfast of oats. These smelled delicious but were a little boring compared to my oat experiments last week.

-half banana
-1/8 c steel cut

Lunch was a chicken carbonara lean cuisine with crushed red pepper.

This is one of my favorite lean cuisines! Delicious cheesy, bacony sauce and lots of chicken. Spiced up with crushed red.. Looming in the background.

Afternoon baked apple snack. I got this apple in one of my lunch boxes last week. I don’t usually eat red delicious, I think they are grainy textured and not tart enough for me but thought maybe I would like it better “baked”. And by baked I obviously mean in the microwave. it was def better baked. I still need to get some cinnamon to keep at work!

Holiday vita top:

Fitness: went to MLS in Bryn Mawr to use more of my Philly dealyo classes. I got there early enough to run 5k on the treadmill…I was pretty slow and did it in about 27 mins. I don’t care for the treadmill but this was less painful then my last treadmill 5k. I finished by walking for .8 mile and made it a nice round 4 miles. After that went to boot camp. Another pretty good bc. This class was completely different from the last one, which i have mixed feelings about. I missed the kettlebells, she used two 5 lb weights instead and did a ton of reps. I thought 5lbs wouldn’t be enough but she really pumped out lots of reps. Again, there were some good cardio moves but they still used the step class moves more then I like. I hate step class! The ones she used today were easier and less dance-y, so i liked that. I got in an hour and a forty today which was needed after the binge this weekend. I have a feeling this may be a theme of the coming month. Now I am feeling really tuckered out so hopefully I will sleep really well tonight.

Snappy dinner since I was starving post gym and had a longer drive home since I went to MLS. I popped this Trader Joe’s spicy Kung pow chicken in the microwave. Drink was skim milk as always.

It had chicken, white rice, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, and peanuts in a Kung pow sauce. It took about 5 minutes to heat up… It was recommended to heat for 8 mins and then let sit for 2 but I was way too hungry and impatient for that.

It was good. I especially liked the peanuts in it. The mushrooms were delicious too but there weren’t enough of them. The broccoli was plentiful which was nice, as was the chicken. It was not spicy…I had to kick it up myself with this:

I was still a little hungry afterward so I had a handful of raisins. About 50 calories worth.

Back tracking to Thursday… It was super busy. Another all day meeting.

Started the day with oats.

Cheesy pear oats

-1/2 c multi grain
-1/8 c steel cut
-1/4 c ricotta (end of the cheeeeeeese so I ate it in the container)
-pinch salt
-pumpkin pie spice
-sweet n low packet
-half pear

Lunch was a horrible experience. I took one sandwich that ended up being covered in dressing.. Nightmare. I switched it out for this ham and cheese on rye with mustard.

Pear side:

I ended up removing some of the bread when I realize it might be honey mustard dressing on it. I also got rid of some of the cheese, you couldn’t taste it on the sandwich anyway.

Banana for a snack before the holiday party.

At the holiday party I had 3 hor devours that I didn’t get pics of. I would have eaten more but I was busy being the company photographer. A bacon wrapped scallop… Awesome. A cheesesteak spring roll…awesome. salmon and cream cheese lollipop… Awful. Waaaay to much cream cheese… it was all you could taste.

The dinner food was excellent. It was the best of our company holiday party that I have attended. For dessert o had a small pumpkin bread thing.. I was not too happy about this, i am pumpkined put this season and an awesome peanut torte bite thing. It was creamy and had peanut pieces in a delicious crusty shell.

Throughout the night I had 2 glasses of merlot. Managed to sneak a pic of one:

At the after party at Iron Hill Brewery I had a raspberry wheat beer that was great. Need to go back there for a tasting.

Fitness: woke up at 5:10 this morning and went to cycling class. The class was not the best workout but there were some challenging parts and I felt good from it.

When I got to work I was really craving eggs but decided to stick to the oats I brought from home. Maybe I’ll get some eggs tomorrow.

Another batch of holiday oats. Tried to make these blue but they looked green.

-1/4 c steel cut
-1/4 c multi grain
-1/2 banana
-sweet n low packet
-blue cake sugar crystal things
-1/2 tbsp of naturally nutty honey cinnamon peanut butter
-handful frozen pom

Snacked on this banana:

For lunch the office was having free pizza (post title a play on a dominoes commercial). Who isn’t excited by free food. I had a skier of veggie and a slice of mushroom-topped with goya hot sauce. I ate it with a knife and fork to eat slower. I wish there was salad.

I had a few mints I had thrown in my bag to get the pizza taste out of my mouth.

Then when work was done I made my way to the bus. Since I’ve never written about it, a couple things about my trips to NY. I go to NY to visit my friend, Dan sometimes referred to as Daniel (it’s the spanish, pronounced Danielle).

1. I have to race out of work to make the 5:30 train near my house. I like to walk to it (takes about 10 mins) but most times I have to drive right there. Annoying be ause when I return on Sunday I either have to get my car and fight for parking. Which is terrible near my house. Or I completely forget about it until I go to work Monday morning and make Lauren drive me there haha.
2. I catch the 6:30pm bolt or megabus depending on what’s cheaper when I buy my bundle (I buy as many tux as far in advance as I can because that’s the best way to get them for cheap). The bus has wifi and plugs and is a great deal. It can be as little as $6 round trip (my pr haha) or as much as $26 (still a good deal).
3. Depending on traffic and the bus being on time (it’s often late- especially mega), I get into NY around 8:30
4. Dan usually meets me at a bar near the stop and I drink a shock top draft (one of my absolute favorite beers) and go on from there.

And I was kidding Dan is my boyfriend. Anyone who knows me probably thought “typical” when I didn’t say it. Gotcha.

Anyway, today I got to walk to the train. Yay. En route I realized I had no cash. Sucks. Lucky for me Manayunk has a bar on vey corner so I was able to get cash. Yay. And run to the train to make it. Sucks. Got Dunkin donuts latte light (120 skim milk cals). Yay.

Was unprepared for the bitter cold and froze waiting outside for the bus. Sucks. Now I’m en route and blogging. Yay. The person next to me is going to think I’m weird when I take pics of the dinner I packed… I’m so cool.

-sabra Greek olive hummus

Side of Herr’s whole grain pretzels. I love these. They have flax seed, omega 3s, more fiber and protein the normal pretzel sticks, and taste like delicious rye.

the descent

Saturday started well.. woke up and made some delicious oatmeal in the microwave for 3 mins):

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • half banana
  • 1 tbsp crofters super fruit spread
  • pumpkin pie spice

I microwaved the oats, brown sugar, banana and mixed all together. first time i added the banana while heating and it was AWESOME there were some chucnk of it and and some smooth creaminess from it. i love it.

on the ride to the baby shower i had a handful of jelly beans.. i found in dan’s car cup holder. haha

The meal started with lost of potato and pretzel chips (unpictured) and a beer and bloody mary

There was a buffet. I took tastes of with shepherds pie, penne alla vodka, and chicken. and a roll that i ate 3/4 of.

i also had a bite of the icing from the cake .. i was stuffed at this point but i love icing and they served me cake so i could not eat it. haha

Dan and i hung out at different family members houses for the rest of the day.  We didn’t eat much more.. i had some more chips and dip at his cousins house because i thought we would eat eventually and was waiting for an actual meal. at about 10pm is when it hit. I  was the sober driver and i pried the 4 loco out of dans hand (not really but he had drank one during the day haha) and we left.  This is where my weekend took a turn for the worse.
