Burn burn burn it up

December 19, 2010

After my weekend binge (sooo many cookies, 2 fast food stops, wedding hor devours, etc), I knew I had to get back on track this week. I felt like eggs so on my way into work I stopped at McDonalds (yeah, yeah fast food again but it was with good intentions) and got some scrambled eggs. That’s it, 170 calories of eggs. When I got to the office I opened them up and they had thrown a biscuit in there as well. It smelled so good. I looked up the nutritionals for it and opted out. I took the biscuit and immediately tossed it so I wouldn’t be tempted.

I toasted an Arnold multi grain sandwich thin and made a sandwich with the egg and Goya hot sauce. Delicious. I really need to just bring egg beaters and some Pam to work and make my own eggs in the microwave. Da well, this is delicious in the mean time.

I was freezing in my cube and drank the last of a berry tea bag I had during my normal morning snack time.

I ran an errand at lunch and picked up my gift for tomorrow’s Santa’s Sloppy Seconds we’re having at Lunch Club. Excited to see what everyone gets (it’s like white elephant I guess). While out I was able to pick up lots of seasonal teas! Peppermint, pumpkin spice, and more eggnoggn’. I returned to have a chicken noodle soup lunch.

With a side of ranch rice quakes. First time I’ve had the ranch. These were delicious, not too over powering…just right.

Afternoon snack I broke into the peppermint tea. Unfortunately the tea is caffeine free but it is very minty, which i like. And I had a banana.

More Vita holidays:

Fitness: i needed a looooong workout today after the weekend. So I decided to redo last Monday’s gym session. I started by doing pushups for the challenge (yes, still week 4 day 1:( ). I then ran for 30 mins on the treadmill, doing fartleks. These were tough, whenever I wanted to slow down I thought of cookies burning up (burn, burn, burn it up up upppp) haha. Stats:

After that i went to bootcamp class. The hour in there goes so fast! Today she used the bosu ball which was different and really exhausted my arms, abs and legs with different moves. She also used the kettlebell, which I have come to really enjoy. Another great hour and a half gym session and I still was home by 7:30.

I was starving when I got home. I made quick dinner of leftovers. Mixed veggies and white beans from last week, a little TJ wild rice, Morningstar chikn’ patty.

Condiments:

I love these veggies, lots of variety, excellent with hot sauce.

I also have had a love affair with chikn’ patties for a while. Mostly because they are so easy. Just heat in the microwave for 1-2 mins.

I decided I do not like this rice. I threw away most of the bag but kept trying it. It’s okay mixed with other stuff (you know, when the flavor is masked). Anyway I will definitely not be buying this variety again.

I really wanted to try my baking again so I had a cake ball and a cookie after dinner. Both were sooooo good today!! The cake ball was really moist and creamy. It tasted undercooked form the moisture of the jelly- in a good way. And I love the combo of chocolate, raspberry and white chocolate. These are awesome. The cookie is also delicious! They are very fluffy and cake-like and the pb and dark chocolate chips are so good in it. I am so proud of my guilt free desserts. Next time I will have to calculate the exact nutrtionals on these. There will be a next time.

Yogurt Party!

December 16, 2010

I was selected to host an Athenos Greek yogurt “house party“. I apply for these all the time and this is the first one I was selected for! Yay! I ran to Walmart (only place near me they sell the Athenos yogurt) before work, aka really early so I could still arrive on time. They were in stock but only had honey and blueberry flavors. That was the start to my morning.

At work I made holiday oats that were a version of a blog I follow. Kath’s ComfOat and Joy. I stu, bled upon this recipe and as you can tell from recent binge eating of mints, I love mint! I used the mints you’ve seen and crushed then up.

-1/2 c rolled oats
-3 starlight mints crushed
-1 tbsp crushed pecans
-sprinkle of vanilla extract
-sweet n low
-pinch of salt
-water
-1/2 c silk nog

I then poured on silk nog but I poured a little too much without thinking. I like my oats to be a tad dry and these were swimming in nog. I do love nog though! They tasted awesome still, minty and delicious. 2 changes i would make 1 use the nog while cooking instead of poured on top and less of it. 2 pour the mints on at the end. Many of them melted into it which was good but I wanted crunchy prices of mint. Later these will be perfected!

I skipped morning snack since I overindulged with the nog. But when a coworker offered me a homemade green olive covered in a meatball and fried. I had to eat it. This was amazing Mmmm.

For lunch I put out the yogurt spread for the party complete with free yogurt and swag.

Instead of yogurt for lunch, I microwaved up a lean cuisine margherita pizza. I’ve enjoyed their pizzas in the past and this one did not disappoint. It was tomato, had some onion, cheesy and the crust was thin and crispy. I cut it into 4 slices to make it last longer and added some garlic salt and Goya. I love pizza, even if it’s a tiny lean cuisine serving.

Coworker Brian enjoying the yogurt. Haha

For my afternoon snack, I finally tried the yogurt! I chose blueberry because it only had 100 calories vs the 160 for the honey (I actually don’t like honey anyway). It was good. Very creamy and the blueberry topping was a good compliment for it. If I feel like yogurt it isn’t my favorite but I might buy it again if it comes to my acme. It had 11 grams of protein which is awesome!

Vita with holiday lobster:

Fitness: I was going to take a spin class tonight but when I got into the room the sub was a teacher I despise. There are only a few teachers that I absolutely can’t sit for a minute in their class and I stumbled into this. I then family guy style slowly backed out of the room and then ran away. I switched it up on the fly and started by banging out my week 4day 1 pushups… Yup been on this set for like 2 weeks now, not even close to completing it. Afterward I did the fartlek workout I did on Tuesday. 3.5 miles in 32 mins. It was a ton harder today. I think it was a combo of new treadmill, hotter in the gym today, and end of the week so my legs must me a little more tired right? Not sure but strange how it can be so easy one time and hard the next. After the running I jumped on the step mill (the stair master that is the actual steps) for 30 mins. I plugged in the weight loss program and it had some heart rate raising intervals in there but wasn’t as hard as the preprogrammed speed intervals that I normally choose when I am on this machine. That was alright with me after the fartleks though.

I was nervous about dinner… I really couldn’t bring myself to eat that rice from last night but when I got home I realized I had just scooped then veggies on top, so I was able to separate the 2. I reheated a chicken from last night, lots of beans and veggies, and a tiny bit of rice to try.

I put no salt, hot sauce and garlic on the veggies and a tbsp of light ranch dressing for dipping the chicken.

This was much better then yesterday. That variety of veg called “soup vegetables” is really good. It has okra, green beans, carrots, onions, corn, potatoes and tossed with the garlic and hot sauce was really good. The addition of beans makes it hearty. The chicken wasn’t as crispy since it was reheated but is still so good.

I still don’t know how I feel about the rice. I can’t really get passed the weird smell, which is out of character for me (well the only other thing I can think of is tofu shirataki that smells weird but I like that). I don’t hate it… But I also won’t be buying it again. I transferred all the veggies into one Tupperware and saved some the rice so we can try again after a few days haha.

For dessert I had 3 starlight mints. Now I’m packing for my cousins wedding this weekend and watching Charlie Brown Christmas. I am actually not a huge fan of the CB movies but it’s the only Christmas thing on right now and I really wanted some Christmas. Definitely need to watch Christmas Vacation this weekend! I usually watch it a million times and I’m I haven’t seen any of it this year!

Is there a Christmas movie you watch a million times during the holidays or can’t go without watching?

Red beans and rice soup fail.

December 6, 2010

Looking at my google calendar at work this morning and feeling a tad stressed. I have a busy week ahead of me. Lots to do at work, holiday parties, fitting in workouts, other errands that are popping up, etc.

Trying to get everything i can done today!

For breakfast I got 2 scrambled eggs from the restaurant(?) in my work building. With a side of ww bagel thin toasted and sprayed liberally with butter spray.

And a diet snapple:

I was in a meeting and missed morning snack time. Lame. lunch I was too busy to actually take today… I ate a healthy choice red beans and rice soup at my desk. It was no bueno. I added suicide hot sauce but it needed salt which makes me cringe because I know how much sodium is already in canned soup. I would have liked it to be less brothy and more red bean and rice-ish but I guess that defeats the purpose of soup.

I was hungry again throughout the afternoon.

Banana.

Pistachios.

Vita that I didn’t have time to get creative but kept with the holiday theme!

Fitness: I took an hour long spin class at the gym tonight. It was not my best workout. Not sure why, just one of those days when it was hard to push myself. Does anyone else have those days or weeks?

I ran some errands including buying my toys for tots gifts for work. Then came home and made dinner.

-Leftover whole wheat pasta and sauce sprinkled with crushed red and garlic
-purdue baked chicken cutlet (broiled in over for about 6 mins)
-broccoli tossed with salt and parmesan (steamed in microwave with a splash of water for 4 mins)

I love those pursue chicken cutlets they are convenient and taste bad for you.. In a good way because they aren’t. You can heat them straight up in the microwave for 1.5-2 mins but broiling them makes them crispier. Tastes like chicken fingers- you can imagine they’re fried. Delish. Broiled cutlet:

Now thinking about packing for NY since I am busy this week. Keyword thinking, way too hard to pack this far in advance. gonna read some more intuitive eating. Im only about 12 pages in but I think I am what they describe as a careful eater:

I somewhat agree so far but I am not sure I can change the way I’ve been eating for the past 7 plus years. And I think it is fine to have a knowledge of how many calories you consume. Especially in this day in age where there are so many scary stats at restaurants. One day you think you’re eating a turkey sandwich and being healthy only to return to your desk to look up the stats online.. And what you ate was upwards of 1000 calories. Then you cry. Yes, this actually happened to me….twice. Now I always look up what im ordering at bear rock cafe and panera. Everytime.

That’s good advice! (a league of their own quote)

Hot run, not so hot yoga

December 2, 2010

Breakfast this morning was oats again. I’m on an oats kick. Probably cause it’s so cold out side and they are warm and cozy and filling.

Today I spruced them up and made peanut butter banana oats!

-1/8 c steel cut
-1/8 c multi grain
-1 1/2 tbsp PB2
-1/2 banana
-pinch salt
-packet sweet n low

These were peanut buttery and bananay- which makes them super creamy- and crunchy from the steel cut.

For snack I broke out my final fruit natural. I don’t really like these. And I don’t really like grapefruit. I have always wanted to like it, it looks good, it’s good for you, you get to eat it with those fun spoons, but it’s too bitter. I drained the juice and tried to like it. No go.

I sprinkled with sweet n low. Still no.

I got 2/3 through and gave up. I just don’t like grapefruit. I washed out the bitterness with the other half of my banana.

Lunch was tuna noodle casserole leftovers with some added Goya.

The leftovers were not quite as good as the orig. The soup got a little mote watery. It noodles were still good tho, maybe better.

Afternoon apple.

Preworkout vita. I despise the movie elf but going with my holiday theme, here ya go:

Fitness: I went back to MLS Fitness for running and hot yoga. I hopped on the treadmill for a 5k. It was rough. I did it in about 8:57 pace. The treadmill is so boring! I liked this one had a loop you watched yourself go around but I was staring at it so the time passed very slowly. It was also waaay too hot in the gym so I was dying. It was pleasant. I just kept telling myself only .6 miles left… .5…. .4, you get it. Ew.

I was extremely ready to stop and go to hot yoga. Well it was yoga, with a heater- not necessarily hot. I think it was hotter in the gym. Regardless, the class was really good! Moved quickly, lots of hop openers (which I like), and some of the hardest balancing poses I’ve ever done! Anyway I like the combo of running and yoga even if I was expecting it to be hot yoga. I just need to run outside and I can take or leave the heat but I really need some triangle poses and it would have been perfect.

For dinner I had Jae over so I cooked up a bunch of whole wheat pasta and chicken snausages.

My plate:

-little pasta
-sauce
-crushed red
-salt
-parmesan

Pasta= 1 c-ish:

Sausage covered in sauce:

-biiiig scoop salad mix
-tomatoes
-balsamic vinegar
-ff feta

I’ve been drinking about 2 cups of milk with dinner every night. Kind of boring for pictures so just FYI.

Rest of my night… Couch/ tv with friend Jae and roommate Lauren – shower – pack for NY – bed.

While I was packing I ate a few of these… It’s an addiction I need to get rid of them!

(more holiday ambience… Busted out my snowflake blanket haha)

I got (jelly) on my seat… (Jelly)

November 29, 2010

That’s a reworked speed quote for those who didn’t pick up on it. But that’s what I’ve been walking around with all day after an unfortunate run in with some jelly.

Woke up feeling very well rested and got my blogpress ap to work finally so I was happy about that. Short post about blogging from an iPad to come (hence the back up of posts the past 2 days).

Anyway got to work and toasted a ww (whole wheat) bagel thin and slapped a tbsp of naturally nutty cinnamon peanut butter on there and some sugar free raspberry jelly.

Somehow the jelly managed to drip down my arm and stomach onto my pants. Would not wash off in work bathroom. Sick. Anyway the breakfast was good but like i said just an unfortunate jelly attack.

For morning snack i had a ginger snappish tea and a Yoplait light strawberry banana yogurt. This is not my favorite flavor. They have so many better ones. Not buying again.

Then lunch came very quickly! Sign of a good day.

For lunch I busted out this whole wheat cheese raviolis (genuardis eating right brand). Good stats

They were good but def needed spices and salt. I added crushed red and some of coworker Brian’s garlic salt. Not bad for canned ravioli and whole wheat is so hard to come by. I would buy them again.

I knew I would be having a late dinner so i had a bigger snack today. Pepita mix and some pistachios.

Then my boss came around with a godiva box she got as a holiday gift. I chose this. Seemed like a fruit filled one.

I got lucky it was raspberry filled! Sidenote: I used to love chocolate covered cherries as a kid and would get a box for Christmas evey year. Now I would probably cringe if I got a whole box of chocolates. It would take me a year to eat but if someone found me a few prices of choco raspberries and cherries I wouldn’t be upset. Just saying.

Vita top in the holiday spirit. I’ve been trying to really get into it this year. Watched home alone with Jae last night (“if you want some someones gonna have to barf it all up. Cause it’s gone”), changed my computer desktop, have been listening to Xmas music in the car. What do you do to get in the swing of the holidays? I also have my eye out for half price nutcracker tickets!

Fitness: cashed in a Philly dealyo deal ($50 for 10 classes at a gym not too far away). Tonight I tried the boot camp class. it was pretty good. The gym, MLS Fitness in Bryn Mawr, was nice. The floor in the aerobics room was bouncy which was kind of cool. the class had some good parts
-they used kettlebells
-there were some really hard cardio parts
-they used paper plates to slide your feet to do lunges which was really hard.

Buuuut
-too much use of step class moves
-would have liked harder strength/ kettlebell moves
-should have done some additional cardio before. Not a problem though because it didn’t start until 6.

Also got to stop at trader joes for once. I wish it were closer or that parking by my house wasn’t such a b. I love it there. I could spend hours.

For dinner, I went to Pam’s. She made an awesome dinner that was also leftovers with a twist! Turkey Salad:

-spinach
-little bit of blue cheese
-avocado
-turkey
-tomato
-garbanzo beans
-trader joes raspberry vinaigrette

She also made an argentinian squash dish. She baked squash with corn, milk, flour, tomatoes… I think (probably butchering the recipe). Either way it was really good! And healthy!

Now I am caught up on all my posts! I mentioned in an earlier post I had award time blogging from the iPad. After getting the sd card connector, The apps were really touchy and wouldn’t work. annoying. So I got Behind. I am going to do a post at some point for blogging on an ipda because now I’ve worked it out and love it.

For now, goodnight!

More leftovers

November 27, 2010

Woke up this morning and went on my final Phoenix run. We only did 3 miles but Bernie was booking it. On my sore legs I tried to keep up but he was running like 7 min miles.

Pre-run snack whole wheat toast with apricot jam.

After getting ditched I made oats for everyone. This was a really good batch

-1/2 c steel cut
-1/4 c rolled
-1 tbsp brown sugar
-half banana
-about 2 c water eyeballed
– 2 handfuls frozen bloobs (blueberries)

Heat first 5 ingredients together for 3 mins, stir halfway, and then add the bloobs for some melty, frozeny blooby goodness.

Basically sat on then couch all day after that. It was glorious just doing nothing. For lunch I had reinvented leftover. Open face turkey sandwich and mashed po-tots.

-whole wheat toast
-cold turkey (I decided I like the leftover turkey better cold)
-cranberry sauce
-green bean casserole

It was all the flavors I love at thanksgiving on a sandwich. Delish. I want to learn how make a slimmed down cranberry sauce I love it so much I could set it all the time.

For a snack later I had more raspberries. Dinner will be a special post coming up!

Atomic horseradish and Harry Potter

November 27, 2010

Too bad for Nova’s loss today :(… Not sure whether to be glad because years where they start off super they fizzle out or to take this disappointment as an indicator of the season. Can someone get a statement from Shane Clark again? Thanks.

This afternoon I had a snack of raspberries. One of my favorite flavors of all time.

Then dinner was leftovers with a twist. Spicy turkey lettuce wraps

-leftover turkey
-part skim mozzarella
-sirracha (sp?)
-big red lettuce leaves

Melted the mozz, scooped on the ciarracha (new sp?). They were good.

On the side I had green bean casserole and stuffing (which I over served myself… Only ate about half)

After that is when we busted out… dun dun dun… The shrimp ring.

And atomic horseradish.

Atomic horseradish challenge.

After cleansing the sinuses. Stings the nostrils. We went to see HP7 which I loved!! I almost cried in the first 10 mins and then sobbed at the end. I really didn’t remember much from the book except for tidbits. Ignorance is probably bliss because I am usually disappointed about what they leave out when making the movies. I can’t wait for the next one. I am sure there will be more tears :/
