Bribed

March 18, 2011

My alarm went off at 5:25am and I was so tired! I really didn’t want to get up, let alone get up to run. I stayed in bed for a minute trying to convince myself to get up… I thought if I don’t do it now I will have to do it at lunch or tomorrow before bachelorette activities. Still not convinced, I thought of Starbucks for some reason and I bribed myself to get out of bed by telling myself I could get a Frappuccino if i got up. It worked!

Fitness: At 5:45am I hit the road. I knew this wasn’t going to be a fast run and told myself anything under 10 min pace was fine. Once I got going I felt alright. I wasn’t going super fast but I wasn’t struggling. I ended with a 9:05 average so 3.5 miles took me about 33 mins. I did manage to hold a steady pace:

1- 9:06
2- 9:01
3- 9:08
last.5- 9:07

After the run I enjoyed my Starbucks bribe.

-grande coffee frapuccino light with a shot of espresso
-spinach feta wrap

I also had a sample bite of a donut they had sitting output didn’t get a pic.

For a morning snack, I had an orange and some cocoa roast almonds. As I’ve said the past few days, my snacks are more filling when they include some fat. This kept me full until 12:30 (I am usually starving at 12), so it worked.

I ate lunch at my desk today because I plan to take a later break to watch the end of the Villanova Game (I am writing this portion before said break/game so hopefully it turns out well). I didn’t have any frozen meals and I can’t eat meat so I grabbed a peice of whole wheat naan i had frozen and made pizza out of it.

-ww naan
-part skim mozz
-peperonni FLAVORED sauce (I realized later that this had peperoni in it but at this point I tried to abide by Lenten rules anad had nothing else so I ate it anyway)
-sprinkled with crushed red and dipped in hot sauce

I wanted something sweet after lunch and had another stick of kidder bueno compliments of Pam’s trip to Argentina

I took my break to watch the end of the game at 3:30 and popped a 100 calorie bag of smart pop for game time snackage.

As you probably, know they lost. Thats really all I have to say on that. Then I had to get to the train/ bus. There was some rubbernecking going on and it forced me to have to drive straight to the station (I prefer to park at my house and walk over) but it was like 78 degrees out and I had some spare flops in my trunk so I put those on and went my merry way. Makes me wish I was going to outdoor happy hour somewhere :(.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to get for dinner on the bus and thought for sure there was a subway at which I could get a veggie delight. There was not. Odd. I was pretty much set on some sort of veggie sandwich and saw a Cosi with published nutritional info (love that law!).

They had a Tuscan Veggie sandwich for 350-some calories.

I tried that. It was really good! It had a feta spread, eggplant, lettuce, tomato, peppers. The bread had some salt on it which really put it over the top. I really enjoyed it!

On the side I had some carrots

and a bag of baked lays.

And a diet coke for caffeine.

Ayway, now I’m headed up to NY. Laying low tonight. Trying out the hungry girl swap for the McDonalds shamrock shake! You know how much I love anything ice-cream related. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Birthday! …and lent

March 10, 2011

march 9 marks my 28th birthday. I am not a huge celebrator of birthdays (like people who have a bday month) but I like it to be acknowledged.. and I don’t mind gifts. haha

Today was also the first day of Lent. While I am not always the best Catholic, i do try to honor lent. Today I started 40 days of giving up peanut butter and peanut butter flavored things. I have been eating a ton of it lately so this is going to be a tough one.

For breakfast i really wanted those pb puffins but I promised to give them up, so i avoided.

-1/2 c grapenuts
-tbsp chopped pecans
-1/2 banana
-skim milk

I had the other half of the banana before going to lunch so I wouldnt be ravenous. Bad pic but trying to make it a little more interesting the just half of an overripe banana.

At work on your birthday, Lunch Club will take you out to wherever you want to go. Since I am having 2 meals out today (and this makes me slightly anxious) I wanted to go to a place where i can find out the calorie count and get something delicious, filling, and healthy. I chose Red Lobster. I don’t go there often but I love seafood and their website has an amazingly detailed nutritional information section. Dream! I planned out my meal before going and it was great.

-the highlight of trip: cheddar bay biscuit! soo melty and cheesy and fabulous.

-garden salad sans the croutons with balsamic vinagrette on the side (used the fork dip technique)

-blackened mahi-mahi with a double side of broccoli

They later brought me some ice cream with whipped cream and hot fudge.. i had a few bites of this as well. I couldn’t turn down free ice cream.

In the afternoon, I had the other half of my pint of strawberries.

Birthday vita top! In the flowers my department got me.

Fitness: i wasn’t going to not workout on my birthday!

Flashback to last year when I couldn’t work out because my eye was hit by a soccer ball and i was forced to do no physical activity for 2 weeks! I felt so guilty going out to eat. Tear.

Anyway, I taught my kickboxing class as usual.

For dinner I really wanted frozen yogurt. I love it and my life has been missing it since Saxby’s closed in Manayunk (psst, i hear a new place is opening in April!!). A quick googling earlier in the week led me to here: Sweetgreen. Not exactly close to my house, but not too far either. They seemed to have some healthy and delicious sounding salad options and more importantly tart forzen yogurt!.

I made my own salad with:

-mesclun mix
-spicy quinoa
-cucumbers
-peppers
-whole wheat croutons
-baked falafel
-curry pineapple yogurt dressing (fat free)

This was really good! The dressing really only tasted like curry, which was a good thing. The quinoa had a bit of a kick… Also good. I got the falafel which was tasty too. I would have preferred shrimp or chicken but they were out of shrimp and since it’s Ash Wednesday I stayed away from the meat.

It came with a side of wheat bread.

And as I said I really came for the tart yogurt. I splurged for the large with coconut, blueberries, and blackberries. This place was good, no pinkberry but, decent yogurt. They didn’t have that many topping choices. I think their schtick is locally grown stuff so the fruit selection was lacking.

I also had a stick of Kinder Bueno compliments of my friend Pam who just came back from Argentina and knows of my obsession with this hard to find in the US candy bar.

This was the perfect birthday dinner for me. I like to have a special treat on my birthday but if I go wild with fried food and a huge meal and tons of cake I will just feel guilty and gross. This was a good balance.

Thanks everyone for the birthday texts, calls, and facebook messages! Hello 28.
